How to Solve Your Biggest Roof Repair Problems
Few people are experts when it comes to their roof, which can make mistakes in this area fairly common and lead to significant roof repairs. Most people want to find the cheapest, easiest solution when it comes to home roof repairs, but your roof isn’t the same as a clogged drain or a small hole in your drywall.
Learn more about common roof problems, and what you can do to solve them.
Leaks
This is one common problem that can be more sneaky than you think. If you have a small leak in your attic but don’t go up there very often, leaks can get much worse before they get any better. You’re usually better off fixing the entire shingle rather than doing a patch-up job. Cement or caulk will only stop the problem for a limited amount of time (if at all.) A leak indicates a default that can threaten your whole house if you’re not careful.
Worn Soffit
Your soffit is what’s under the eaves of the roof or rafters of your home, and it’s there to provide the structural ceiling component to your home. If it’s starting to wear away, you could be opening your home to insects, water, or even small animals (e.g., squirrels, birds, mice, etc.) Better ventilation in your soffit will help prevent wear and tear. However, if its already damaged, you may need to replace it with a simple roof repair job.
Gutters
Clogged gutters are usually pretty easy to fix on your own, even if it’s not an easy or pleasant roof repair job. If you’re clearing out your gutters, make sure you pay attention to any leaks or gaps. Caulk is usually a good solution for your gutters. (And it’s both cheap and simple to do.)
