The home’s original wood siding had begun to rot and lose paint faster each season. Old insulation and sheathing allowed drafts to enter the front of the house, and the trim around windows and doors showed visible signs of moisture damage. The challenge was to restore this 1849 home’s integrity while keeping its historical look intact and ensuring every material would last for decades to come.
Our crew carefully removed the original siding down to the sheathing and fully reinsulated and resheathed the front portion of the home to strengthen the building envelope. We then installed a combination of Everlast Composite Siding in both 7″ and 4.5″ exposures. This mix of reveals created natural depth and dimension while maintaining proportions true to the home’s 19th century architecture.
Every trim detail was rebuilt using long lasting cellular PVC using 1×6 for corner boards and 1×5 for all window and door casings. This ensures rot resistance and crisp definition. The trim, eaves, soffits, and freeze boards were coated with two layers of Sherwin Williams Resilience (stain sheen) paint for exceptional color retention and weather defense.
The homeowners also wanted upgraded windows and doors that would match the quality of their new siding. We installed one Marvin Elevate double hung window, one Simonton Bronze double hung window, two Cabriolet fullview storm doors, and a Norandex Maxima entry door with dual sidelites. The result is a seamless blend of historic aesthetics and modern performance.
The final transformation honored the home’s 1849 heritage while making it stronger, quieter, and far more energy efficient. The Everlast Composite Siding in soft Sand Dune brings timeless warmth, while the white PVC trim adds clean contrast and sharp lines that highlight the home’s symmetry. The entryway now stands out with its new Norandex door system and updated trim details.
